In addition to supporting the Parkland student organizers, part of Amplifier’s mission for the March For Our Lives campaign was to highlight young people of color who experience gun violence at a disproportionate rate and are leading the battle for reformed laws and policing. In this powerful image, artist Micah Bazant represents their plight for justice, which has been in motion for generations and is now joining forces with the #NeverAgain movement.
“I wanted to honor Black youth who have been fighting gun violence, not just from school shootings, but from the police & white supremacists. If we give guns to teachers, Black students are going to be hurt and criminalized the most,” says Bazant. “As a white artist, it’s my responsibility to speak out against racism and try to work in solidarity with racial justice organizations and the Black liberation movement.”
